Barry Goldwater essays When you here the word conservitism or conservative movement lots of people come to mind. People like Ronald Reagan, Woodrow Wilson, Dwight D. Eisenhowser, William F. Buckley, and so on and so on. None stand out the most than Barry Goldwater. Barry Goldwater was one of the pioneers of the conservative movement. Goldwater remained a conservative until the day he died. Barry Goldwater was born January 1, 1901, in Phoenix Arizona. He was the son of a Jewish father and a Protestant mother, and had become the voice of a booming Southwest with a conservitive policy written in his book. The Conscience of A Conservitive. Opposing the fabric of the welfare state, questioning the authority of the Supreme Court, and holding a nationalist foreign policy. He became a spokesperson for right-wing Republicans in their campaign against a big government, advocating instead greater state and local powers. Goldwater vigorously apposed welfare appropriations as socialistic and sought to curb public ownership of utilities. A strong anticommunist Goldwater supported military intervention in Vietnam and criticized efforts to achieve dente with the U.S.S.R. In 1952 Barry was elected Senator of Arizona, upsetting Senate Minority Leader Ernest McFarland, author of the widely popular G.I. Bill. The conservative movement has reshaped American politics. Of course Barry Goldwater rose to national prominence in 1960 and led the conservative takeover of the Republican Party in 1964. In 1964 Goldwater was a presidential canidate but was unsuccessful. He was decisively defeated by Lyndon Baines Johnson. After Lyndon Johnsons overwhelming victory in 1964, Arthur M. Schelsinger Jr. was only one of many commentators who claimed that conservitism was finished, and that the Republican Party was forever doomed if it succumbed to become an ideological conservative party. Everyone saw the size of the defeat. Almost none grasped th ...

INTERNET Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

INTERNET - Research Paper Example There are almost 100 countries that use internet for variety of purposes. The main purpose is yet the demand of information. Business on the internet is growing at a much faster pace. EBay and other such internet based corporations used internet to provide a customer an ease to shop online with going anywhere. Internet based banking provided us an ease to check our account and transfer funds from anywhere in the world. Internet is a term, which is used to refer a global network of computers or other networks. The word is derived from a term ‘internetwork’. The global network of internet involves an infrastructure to support the communication through the internet. Internet service providers (ISPs) are engaged to enjoy the services on the internet (Castells, 2001). The most common services that are provided by the internet are World Wide Web (WWW) and electronic mail (E-mail). Internet holds a lot of information which is pre-stored in main frame computers at different locations. When user requests particular information, the request is sent to the mainframe computer, the mainframe computer then completes the requested information. The whole process involves different networks that support the internet. To support and serve millions and billions of users in the whole world, internet uses the standard internet protocol suite which in computer derived as TCP/IP, where TCP is transmission control protocol and IP is internet protocol. The networking hardware is associated with the internet protocol (Moschovitis, et. al, 1999). Internet protocol is important, as it provides an identification of a user. Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) and internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) are two internet protocols. The whole communication system works in a well organized manner and updated according to the technology. The wireless technologies in the internet communication system has revolutionized the utilization of internet and provided an ease for the users to use the services. Wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) or wireless local area network (WLAN) is the common type of wireless network that is capable of providing wireless internet. Fashion Company Prada Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 9000 words

Fashion Company Prada - Dissertation Example Even though, on a global basis, there are only handfuls that can actually afford the luxury goods available, there are however a large number of common people exposed to such advertisements that these brands publish, often creating a kind of aspiration amongst them of affording these luxury items someday. This research paper will conduct an analysis into the advertising world of luxury brands, using Prada as a case study, where it is divided into three parts. The first part is the conceptual context, which is a critical evaluation of the relationship that exists between luxury goods and advertising in the context of the high fashion brands. The second part will deal with the management issue, which would be a critical evaluation of the strategic importance of advertisements in selling luxury items (as in Prada). The third part is the visual analysis, which is a analysis of the advertisements created for Prada and their impact on consumers. â€Å"Luxury brands should seize every opportunity to talk about themselves, distinguish themselves from other brands & revive their fascinating history†~ Aurelie Pichard. ... The third part is the visual analysis, which is a analysis of the advertisements created for Prada and their impact on consumers. 1 Conceptual context: an insight into the relationship that exists between luxury goods and advertising in context of high fashion brands â€Å"Luxury brands should seize every opportunity to talk about themselves, distinguish themselves from other brands & revive their fascinating history†~ Aurelie Pichard. The economic recession of the 2007-2008 negatively affected the global market, including and the market for luxury items. Those relatively less affluent, spent less money on luxury items, forcing many of the luxury brands to less their prices to maintain growth (KPMG International Cooperative, 2011, 10). Despite the price cuts, there was 8% year-on-year fall in worldwide demand for luxury items, during the year 2009. Along with fall in sale of luxury goods, there was an inadvertent fall in the advertisements of these companies. In a 2008 news re port, we find that â€Å"ad pages at the top luxury magazines fell 22 percent year over year for the December issues, according to Media Industry Newsletter. Vogue, for example, dropped from 284 pages last December, to 221 pages this December, while Food & Wine went from 160 pages to 126† (Clifford, For Luxury Brands, Less Money to Spend on Ads, 2008). However, 2010 again saw a rise in demands for luxury items in the first quarter and this trend continued throughout 2010, leading to a comeback for this industry (ibid), as seen in fig 1. Fig 1: Revenues of top global luxury goods players (US$ billion) (KPMG International Cooperative, 2011, 10). The worldwide sales of luxury items were

Litigating a tax matter--the judicial process Essay

Litigating a tax matter--the judicial process - Essay Example Power rifts that exist between the legislative and executive branches of government on who is to make decisions also affects citizen, a lot of time is wasted of formulating budgets and it makes it even worse that incase of any changes that are made, long bureaucratic lines have to be made to ensure that the right authority is given. This rift has proven to cause the citizens negatively since as the branches take time to process their budgetary terms, the citizens continue paying the taxes and taking a longer time to get entitlement programs. As citizens, they are entitled to getting grants, loans, operating and capital budgets, but this becomes either easy or hard depending on the process it takes for approval and which program one is applying for. Entitlement programs are given on the basis of how many people or organizations actually meet the requirements of getting the programs. This also is dependant on he government that the person or organization is under since the state and local governments budget on a separately for operating expenses and budgets (S.Rubin). Decisions made that make the budgeting process vary from one state to another easily affects the citizens. Most citizens are likely to live in one state and work in another or be in a situation where their families live in a different state from the one their working in. A good example as explained in the chapter in the difference in budget processes between the state of Texas and Georgia where in Texas the legislative budget board and the governor works together in the budget planning process. Here citizens have to ensure that their application comply with standards of the board and the governor. In Georgia however the process is made easier for the citizens since the legislative institutions have no role in discussing the budget process. With this example it

The Contradicting Gorgias Philosophy On The Non Existent Philosophy Essay

The Contradicting Gorgias Philosophy On The Non Existent Philosophy Essay Existence, this word affects many primitive philosophers. One of these is Gorgias, he is a nihilist or a person who believes nothing exists, or that the world is incomprehensible, and that the concept of truth is fictitious. He said that Nothing exists; Even if something exists, nothing can be known about it; and Even if something can be known about it, knowledge about it cant be communicated to others. Even if it can be communicated, it cannot be understood. Heidegger  says that the fundamental problem of metaphysics is why there are beings rather than nothing. As it happens, and as Heidegger was certainly aware, there was an answer to this in the earliest days of Greek philosophy.  Parmenides  said, For you could not know that which is not (that is impossible) nor utter it; for the same thing can be thought as can be [the same thing exists for thinking as for being]. That which can be spoken and thought must be; for it is possible for it, but not for nothing, to be; that is what I bid you ponder [The Presocratic Philosophers, G.S. Kirk J.E. Raven, Cambridge University Press, 1964, pp.269-270]. The short answer is thus that beings exist rather than nothing because there  cannot be  nothing. 1The argument that Parmenides offers is that for us to think about something or talk about something, there must be something but nothing by definition is not something. Therefore, we cannot think about it or talk about it, and should not. In other words, we cannot properly use the concept; and when we dont, things like coming into being and perishing. which require non-existence, stop to exist. B. Statement of the problem This study sought to prove that the philosophy of Gorgias about the Non- existent is wrong. The researchers also sought the answers to the following questions: 1. What is existence? 2. How something can exist? 3. How can you sure that something is really existing? C. Significance of the study The researchers hope that the findings of this study helps and give new ideas to the readers. As long as the other philosophers that actually contradicted to Gorgias that this also has the point of view. 2 D. Scope and limitation This research contained the contradicting philosophy of the researchers towards to the philosophy of Gorgias about the Existence. This contains the different perspectives of various philosophers. CHAPTER 2 OVERVIEW ABOUT THE EXISTENCE A. The Existence According to Wikipedia, The word existence comes from the  Latin  word  existere  meaning to appear, to arise, to become, or to be, but literally, it means to stand out. It says that the existence can actually define when something is recognized. Some says that, it is the  world  we are  aware  or conscious  of through our  senses, and that  persists  independently without them.  Others define it to be everything that most people believe  in. When something is already existed in that kind of instance probably it would already knew by others. It is affirmative to the question of whether it is then when we say existence it is always actual and opposed by its nature. And according to Schopenhauer  claimed that everything that exists for knowledge, and hence the whole of this world, is only object in relation to the subject, perception of the perceiver, in a word, representation.  According to him there can be No object without subject because everything o bjective is already conditioned as such in manifold ways by the knowing subject with the forms of its knowing, and presupposes these forms. Materialism  holds that the only thing that exists is  matter that all things are composed of material, and all phenomena or consciousness are the result of material interactions. 3 B. Being The word being is a noun. According to Gilsons theory, it signifies either a being (that is, the substance, nature, and essence of anything existent), or being itself, a property common to all that which can rightly be said to be. The same word is the present participle of the verb to be. As a verb, it no longer signifies something that is, nor even existence in general, but rather the very act whereby any given reality actually is, or exists. Let us call this act a to be, in contradistinction to what is commonly called a being. It appears at once that, at least to the mind, the relation of to be to being is not a reciprocal one. Being is conceivable; to be is not. We cannot possibly conceive an is except as belonging to some thing that is, or exists. But the reverse is not true. Being is quite conceivable apart from actual existence; so much so that the very first and the most universal of all the distinctions in the realm of being is that which divides it into two classes, that of the real and that of the possible. Whether or not an object is present in a set; that is, exists there as a being, is based on universal experience or evidence of it. Existing objects are present to the experience of anyone. It is a legitimate goal therefore for philosophers of being to try to find a principle or element a something accounting for the presence of the object over the other possibility, its non-presence.   In Parmenides philosophy, he begins what he takes to a self-evident truth: it is. It is a truth of reason. It cannot be denied if you say, it is not, then you have proved that it is; for if nothing, its not nothing, rather it is something. Parmenides believed that being is rational; that only what can be thought can exist. Since nothing cannot be thought, there is no nothing, there is only being. 4 C. Cogito Ergo Sum Through reasoning there is a claim that cannot be doubted: when one contemplates one existence, it is not possible to have the slightest doubt that one does in fact exist (Cogito, Ergo Sum I think therefore I am); a philosophical Latin statement proposed by  Renà © Descartes.   The I in claim is not a physical person but an immaterial mind. The Cogito can only prove that I think. And he might just as well infer from it the existence of thought as the existence of I, one cannot be doubted that he thinks, therefore if you think, you are using your mind so your mind is existing. 5 CHAPTER 3 ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSION Based on the data that the researchers gathered, the researchers cannot say that there is nothing because if theres nothing, there will nothing to be explained or theres nothing to be communicate. If a man thinks, there will be a something that can explain or can communicate with, in contradiction to the philosophy of Gorgias that Nothing exists; Even if something exists, nothing can be known about it; and even if something can be known about it, knowledge about it cant be communicated to others. Even if it can be communicated, it cannot be understood. So if its true that it cannot be understood, therefore theres no use for him to have a philosophy of nothing because he use to know that there will no knowledge to be understood. For this reason, theres no sense of having a teacher, professor, philosopher, orator etc. if there will no way of understanding. In this case, he himself is having a non-sense philosophy of nothing because the value of a word, phrase, sentence or a paragraph i s based on its knowledge that we can get from it. By the justification of Being of Parmenides, even the things that come into your mind is existing, even if its not existing the present time, it is existing in your mind. We can say that the mind is place where those specific things you think exist. It is it is a truth of reason. It cannot be denied if you say, it is not, then you have proved that it is; for if nothing, its not nothing, rather it is something. Parmenides believed that being is rational; that only what can be thought can exist. Since nothing cannot be thought, there is no nothing, there is only being. And based on the responses of the philosophers about Existence, few of them were actually believe that there can exist. One of them is Rene Descartes perspective. The cogito(mind) can exist through thinking. It more proves that a person is existing by knowing that his mind I existing because whenever you think, you are existing.

The Hiding Place by Orna Jagur Essay -- Hiding Place Orna Jagur Essays

The Hiding Place by Orna Jagur   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Hiding Place is about Corrie ten Boom, her family, and how they helped the Jews in Holland when Germany invaded Holland in World War II. The main characters are Corrie, her older sisters Betsie and Nollie, her older brother Willem, and their father, Casper ten Boom, commonly referred to as Opa. The book starts out in January of 1937, in Haarlem, Holland.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When Germany invaded Holland during the beginning of World War II, the Jews were the German soldiers and Adolf Hitler’s main targets. Jews were required to wear a yellow star on their shirt, and if they walked around town during the day, they risked being taken into captivity by the German soldiers. This, among other racism against the Jews, infuriated Corrie and her family. If a person was caught helping to hide a Jew, they were also taken into captivity. Corrie and her family didn’t care if they’d ever get caught. Her father once said, â€Å"I’d consider it an honor to give my life for just one of God’s chosen people.† Also, some of Corrie’s dearest friends were Jews, and she wanted nothing but to keep them safe and away from harm. During the course of World War II, Corrie and her family were part of the â€Å"Dutch Underground,† a secret widespread group of people that would help to hide Jews and their families from the German soldiers. Corrie’s family’s house was the center of the â€Å"Dutch Underground.† They had secret city-affiliated people that would help them with it, suc...

Fast Food Research Paper Essay

1. Why is fast food bad for you? 2. What are the effects of eating fast food? 3. What are some successful fast food industries and there business strategies? Introduction It seems harmless, satisfies your hunger, and is cheap, but really is egregiously unhealthy. The fast food industry is very smart; they have many sly business strategies to make money. They target children and students and make millions of dollars in profit. Each and every day people choose to eat at fast food restaurants because it quick, especially for people with jobs and are always in a hurry, and because it’s delicious; but many do not know the truth behind it and the harmful effects that contributes to eating fast food continuously. Fast food is made of low quality ingredients and consists mainly of sugar, fat, high calories, and high sodium. Fast food causes obesity and nothing is being done to stop this major issue in America right now. Some fast food chains are: McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, and KFC. The list could go on and on which is the problem, fast food restaurants are everywhere! When it’s dark outside and you are driving home from work and you see the big flashy fast food restaurant signs, the temptation never ends, the business techniques are very cunning and fast food can become addicting so it’s important to always be cautious of why fast food is bad, the effects, fast food restaurants and their business strategies/techniques. Why Is Fast Food Bad? An average human being should consume about 400-600 in about one meal, when eating fast food one item on the menu start at 750 calories (â€Å"The Raw Prawns† n. p.). People may think fast food in moderation is okay but the truth is once you begin a fast food eating routine where you visit almost daily it will be very hard to get out of the routine and can sometimes be addicting (â€Å"Why Fast Food is Bad For You† n. p. ). When on the road a local fast food restaurant seems very convenient and a smart decision to go there, but if you care about you personal health don’t make that decision simply make a healthier choice. Fast food can be dangerous and if nothing soon can be done to address this severe problem in the near future then the obesity and death rates will increase immensely. Fast food is not a balanced diet, it consists mainly of meat and bread and a small amount of lettuce and tomato which are not organic at all. (â€Å"Obesity Facts† n. p. ). This kind of diet is very deadly and is one of the leading causes of obesity and death in America (â€Å"Eating Yourself to Death† n. p. ). The Effects Almost all fast food is deep fried and processed, they contain excessive amounts of sodium which is extremely unhealthy for the body, and in the desserts everything is high in sugar content and calories (â€Å"Obesity Facts† n. p. ). Obesity: Indicates that the body has too much fat. *It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. It is a result from over eating, or continuously eating fast food. In America, there are over 300, 000 fast food restaurants and 50 million people are served everyday! (â€Å"How Unhealthy is Fast Food† n. p. ). This is why America has the highest number of obese people in the world. Fast food causes heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, tooth decay, and diabetes (â€Å"3 reasons Why Fast Food id Bad For You† n. p. ). When continuously eating fast food, such as French fries, heavy, burgers, and sugary drinks it causes people to become more and more lazy; they don’t pay attention to their health and their physical activity level decreases (â€Å"How Unhealthy is Fast Food? † n. p. ). In addition, recent study shows there’s a chance depression can tie into eating excessive amounts of fast food. Who is to blame? How do they do it? As of now in the United States there are 22 fast food franchises. McDonalds was the first franchise to open in 1940 and since then they have been the leading and most successful franchise in America (â€Å"The Raw Prawn† n.p. ). Other franchises include: Burger King, KFC, Wendy’s, Arby’s, and Taco Bell. Each of which target young students and children. Most of them have a value menu where items to purchase are cheap and tasty but very unhealthy. Some fast food restaurants provide a toy for children with their meal which attract them to come again and again ( â€Å"Eating Yourself to Death† n. p. ). In addition, some restaurants contain an indoor play ground which attracts small children even more. The fast food industry mainly brings customers for their tasty food and simple convenience, they attach a drive thru to their building making it faster for customers to purchase and collect their food which is also less time consuming. Recently in the past few years, fast food franchises have begun to change their restaurant and attempt to become healthier as a whole, in some fast food restaurants they have a nutritional menu to choose from which generally contain healthier food compared to the regular menu (â€Å"The Raw Prawn† n. p. ). Conclusion After researching about fast food and understanding how the huge industry works. I can conclude that the effects of eating fast food on a day to day basis are horrific. It is very unhealthy; the best thing to do is avoid it even if you are in a hurry. Fast Food chains are everywhere the signs are big and flashy and very tempting, it’s important to know what the food can do to the human body so just simply avoid the restaurant. Everyone should be healthy and live as long as possible, fast food is a killer all it does is drain you money and can slowly kill. Do not fall for the sneaky business techniques and strategies the fast food industry uses to gain money. Be smart, avoid fast food, and stay healthy!

(Bachelors of Science).

Proton - Definition of Physics Terms

Proton - Definition of Physics Terms A proton is a positively charged particle that resides within the atomic nucleus. The number of protons in the atomic nucleus is what determines the atomic number of an element, as outlined in the periodic table of the elements. The proton has charge 1 (or, alternately, 1.602 x 10-19 Coulombs), the exact opposite of the -1 charge contained by the electron. In mass, however, there is no contest - the protons mass is approximately 1,836 times that of an electron. Discovery of the Proton The proton was discovered by Ernest Rutherford in 1918 (though the concept had been earlier suggested by the work of Eugene Goldstein). The proton was long believed to be an elementary particle until the discovery of quarks. In the quark model, it is now understood that the proton is comprised of two up quarks and one down quark, mediated by gluons in the Standard Model of quantum physics. Proton Details Since the proton is in the atomic nucleus, it is a nucleon. Since it has a spin of -1/2, it is a fermion. Since it is composed of three quarks, it is a triquark baryon, a type of hadron. (As should be clear at this point, physicists really enjoy making categories for particles.) How the result in home football games reflect the final standing Statistics Project

How the result in home football games reflect the final standing. (Spanish La Liga) - Statistics Project Example Home advantage plays a imperative role for the team resulting in favorable results, and this advantage makes home teams to win several games as compared to the away teams especially when accounting for the diversity of teams (Zelterman, pp.124-189). Appropriate models such as the least square for individual teams are more accurate and precise. This method estimates the home ground advantages for every team together with its individual ratings. Home advantages for all teams in Spanish La Liga from 2002-2003 seasons to 2010-2011 seasons were recorded. The above dataset consist of 20,100 matches. The result indicates that the home ground advantage is not much predictable and varies from team to team across the year. For example, some teams had an adverse home advantage for some years while other performed well at home. However, the home advantage is estimated as 0.5 of the number of goals scored. The results indicated that there was no division effect. The outcomes of the underlying research also depicted that the advantage may work well on winning rather than on goal difference. The prevailing factors results in the generation of the home advantage theory have a tendency of determining the winning team over the winning margins. Clubs with special training facilities had a significant amount of home advantage, and the Madrid clubs had the home advantages. In home advantage, there exist a wide regional variation and amazingly, the research revealed that the crowd size had no direct impact on the magnitude of home advantage. The records for home advantages for top two divisions across Europe English, German, French and Italian leagues were all similar irrespective of the high attendance witnessed in division one games. Moreover, the home advantage is in the Spanish league was at 60.7% arrived at with attendance of 31009 on average. Conversely, the

Personal essay on one thing I would change in the world

Personal on one thing I would change in the world - Essay Example I grew up in a small village, where I saw girls aged five or six, carrying younger siblings, and begging on the streets for food. They were dirty, unkempt and wore clothes that were little more than rags. I wondered, why their parents would not give them enough to eat, till I was told that their parents probably gave them all they had, and went hungry themselves. They lived in hovels, and often while the older children begged, the younger ones were asleep on the roadside probably having exhausted themselves crying. As I grew up, and left the village to pursue my studies in a bigger town, these images stayed with me. However, to my dismay, I found that there were more such beggars there, than I had seen in my village. It struck me then, that I lived in a poor country where poverty was a curse suffered by large numbers of the population. It was at this stage of my life, that I made up my mind to do my bit to ease the pain of these poor, unfortunate people. My parents were happy to see that I felt so much sympathy for those less fortunate than me, and encouraged me to do small things like offering food, sweets or clothes to poor people nearby on my birthday, instead of having a party for my friends. Fortunately, my school too was at the forefront of social work, involving educating those who did not have the means to go to a proper school. We students, were taken to nearby rural areas, to mingle with the villagers and understand their problems. We also sometimes helped the younger children with t heir homework, and encouraged them never to stop their schooling, because many children are forced to stop going to school, and instead help their parents out in small jobs. As I graduated from high school, I realized that the means to end poverty was education. I found that poor children were less healthy, and more prone to disease than their peers in more advantaged homes. Living in unhygienic surroundings, and never having the benefit of being educated in the
